Wayne Nielsen and team sign up with PMRA Pro Modified Tour
London-based group to race nitrous-powered Lumina
(1-29-2008) LONDON,ONTARIO – Although he’s been racing for over 25 years, and has worked his way up through the classes,Wayne Nielsen will be ready for some Pro Modified racing in 2008 with the Pro Modified Racing Association.
“I looking forward to running in the PMRA,” said the London-based driver recently. “I’m also looking forward to going a little quicker!”
Nielsen said he has raced with the usual progression of getting faster cars during his career, and has been running Top Sportsman and Quick 8 competition at tracks such as the Grand Bend Motorplex and Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario.
Nielsen also competes in the IHRA’s Top Sportsman class.
The Nielsen Racing 1993 Chevy Lumina Z24 has a Stroupe Race Cars platform, a prominent builder specializing in Pro Modified, and Top Sportsman race cars from North Carolina. The Lumina is powered by a nitrous-injected Martin Technologies 738-cubic inch big block Chevy, mated to a Rossler TH400 automatic.
Luke Nielsen and Wes Simpson will continue to share the crew chief duties on the team, which is sponsored in part by Stoneybrook Auto Service in London, Pennzoil, and Exercise Advantage fitness consulting in London, Ontario.
Nielsen said he’ll be ready for his inaugural PMRA event when the 2008 season gets underway May 17-18 for the Victoria Day Weekend - PMRA Challenge at Toronto Motorsports Park.
“I think I’ll like racing with the PMRA,” Nielsen commented. “I enjoy heads-up racing, and it should be a good time.”
PMRA tour stops in 2008 include two dates at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario, Lancaster Raceway Park in New York State, Sanair in Quebec and the Southwestern Ontario track of Grand Bend Motorplex.
Negotiations are underway with several US race tracks based in Michigan, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania with the plan of presenting a seven-event PMRA drag racing series this season.

The Pro Modified Racing Association,
www.ProModifiedRacing.com, was organized late in 2004, started racing operations in 2005, and is entering its fourth year of operation. The PMRA is a self-governing organization with input from its teams, and adheres to the technical and safety rules as outlined by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). Combining classic body styles and modern equipment, constructors are permitted, within established rules and parameters, to modify and enhance the cars in both appearance and performance. The cars are fuelled by gasoline or methanol, propelling them down the quarter-mile in low six-second times at over 200 miles per hour. The PMRA provides drag race fans the opportunity to see, hear, and experience the popular Pro Modifieds, known as "the world's fastest door slammers".
