Critchley gets a break for “The Belt” in Kennedale
(10-12-2006) KENNEDALE, TX - When a drag racer gets a break, they are wise to take advantage of it. Aussie-born Troy Critchley plans to do just that during this weekend’s ADRL GetWorkComp.com World Finals, the final event on the 2006 series tour.
Critchley, driver of the AMS Staff Leasing-sponsored 1970 Barracuda, entered this weekend’s championship battle as the first alternate (9th) but a decision by Quain Stott to not attend elevates him into the show.
“It’s not often that an alternate gets a chance to battle for the championship, so you can bet that we’re coming into this event with everything we’ve got on the line,” Critchley said. “We want this title for Dave Wood and we plan to do everything in our power to make it happen.”
Critchley is one of three drivers in this weekend’s “Battle for the Belt” competition who pull double-duty on the NHRA’s AMS Pro Modified Challenge tour. Those events are contested on quarter-mile venues while the ADRL meets run a shorter and less forgiving eighth-mile course.
Critchley has already ripped off an incredible 239.40 trap speed two races ago and while the 200 barrier has yet to be brokenin the eighth mile, he’d like to think he has as good of a shot as anyone.
“We worked on our short times extensively last month in Rockingham,” Critchley said. “We are pretty confident in our second-half numbers and we have concentrated a lot of our efforts on the front-half. I feel good about our chances headed into Kennedale.”
Critchley brings a 3-5 record into this weekend’s event with a best 2006 finish – a semi-final outing in Memphis, Tenn.
